Love

Christians are called to love through compassion, forgiveness, generosity, and service to others. Living a loving life is fulfilling God’s greatest commandments.

Love is fundamental to the Christian faith. Christians are called to love God and love their neighbours. The Bible describes God’s perfect love for humanity and the love believers should have for each other. Key verses about love include:

“For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.” (John 3:16) This verse encapsulates God’s ultimate love, expressed by sending Jesus for the salvation of the world.

“Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It does not dishonour others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres. Love never fails.” (1 Corinthians 13:4-8)

“A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another. By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another.” (John 13:34-35) Jesus commanded his followers to love as he loved – fully, sacrificially, and unconditionally.

“Dear friends, let us love one another, for love comes from God. Everyone who loves has been born of God and knows God.” (1 John 4:7) Christians demonstrate their faith when they live a life of love.
